At the time I’m writing at the moment, I’m in my last few weeks work at Neal’s Yard Dairy where I’ve been working for the past 14 years. In that time I’ve done all sorts of jobs: retail, wholesale, quality assurance, mail order and marketing. I even ran the administration in the very early days when we supported the development of Borough Market (way back in 1999). It has been a wide ranging and varied lot of work and has always kept me on my toes and kept me learning. But, as they say, all good things come to an end. It’s time to get out of London and back to what my colleague James Rutter calls ‘the better half of the country’. Yes, it’s time to leave the bright lights of the big city and head back north.
The next couple of years, I intend to travel around the UK and maybe further afield too and learn about all things dairy. First stop is Cumbria where I’ll be working with Martin Gott who makes St James and Swallett at Holker Farm Dairy and after that who knows… The plan for this blog is to keep a diary of what I’m learning and the places I’ll be working. Hopefully it’ll make interesting reading!
